Mexico

Introduction

Mexico also known as the united Mexican states is 14th largest independent nation in the world. It has a population of about 112,322,757 people. It covers about 2 million square kilometers. In 1521 Spain conquered and colonized the territory calling it New Spain. The colony was eventually recognized as Mexico and earned its independence in 1821.

Economy

Since the 1990's mexico has had rapid social, technological, and economic growth. Now mexico has the eleventh largest economy in the world, and is one of the fastest growing economy's in the world with a steady growth of 7.6%. The currency used is called pesos. One peso is worth about 0.0830 dollars. The average per capita income is $14,932. There are many large successful industry's in mexico, for example the automotive industry in mexico has many large companies like general motors, ford, and Chrysler that have been operating there since 1930 but other large companies are also coming and setting up factories in Mexico. In addition the electronics business is very big in Mexico companies such as Sony and Samsung have been having success in Mexico. Another very booming business in Mexico is the beverage business their are many alcoholic beverage factories. In addition to that Mexico has the 2nd largest coca cola bottling factory in the world.

Eduardo Najera

Eduardo Najera a forward for the houston rockets has played in the nba for 10 years. He has scored a total of 2987 points in his career. He is famous from being the second NBA player that was born in mexico.

Activities

There are many entertaining and interesting activities in mexico including horseback rinding, sea kayaking, fishing, sightseeing, bird watching, surfing, hiking and many more.

Ethnicity and Language

Mexico is very ethnically diverse. The majority of Mexicans are a mix of indigenous and European this is also known as mestizaje they are about 70% of the population. The native american population is about 15% and the white population is about 15%. Mexico is the largest Spanish speaking country in the world. 97% percent of mexico's population speaks Spanish.

Religion

Mexico has is the second largest catholic country in the world although there is no official religion but the majority of the population is Christian and more specifically roman catholic(76.5%). The government does not fund the church and the church does not participate in public schools.

Government

Mexico is a federation with a representative, democratic, and republican government. The constitution creates three levels of government the federal Union, the state governments and the municipal governments. The current president of mexico is named Felipe Calderón.



Cuisine

Mexican cuisine is known for its strong flavors, variety of colors, and intense spices. The north of mexico is known for its meat dishes with beef, goat, and ostrich. Central mexico's cuisine is mostly influenced by the rest of the country and has dishes such as tamales, carnitas, and menudo. In southeastern mexico many of the dishes are based of spicy chicken and vegetables. Most commonly none Mexican dishes are tacos, burritos, tamales, quesidillas, enchiladas, and mole.

Recipe for chicken and black bean enchiladas(8 enchiladas)

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, and Spray a baking dish with cooking spray.
  2. Pour chicken broth into a small frying pan, heat it to simmer, and then add chicken breast. Cover and simmer until their is no pink. After it is done let is cool and then shred it.
  3. In same frying pan, add onions and red pepper. Saute over medium heat until they are soft.
  4. In a large bowl, place chicken, onion-pepper mixture, beans, corn, cilantro, chilies, 2 cups of the cheese, and sour cream. Toss the ingredients until they are thoroughly blended. Add tabasco, salt and pepper to your liking.
  5. Place mixture into the center of each tortilla. Then roll and place them in a baking dish. When all 8 rolls are completed, pour Enchilada sauce over top and sprinkle with cheese. Bake sauce bubbles and enchiladas are heated through.

Popular Tourist Attractions

Their are many popular tourist attraction in mexico. One of the most popular destinations is Cancun. Cancun is shaped like an island and is located near the Caribbean sea on the Yucatan peninsula. There are many great hotels and beaches with spas and other services. The water is also very good for water activites such as surfing sailing and diving. Another very popular attraction is Acapulco it is a c shaped bay with many beautifully and natural surroundings. It has good weather and our modern infrastructure has little effect on its natural beauty.

Day Itinerary

There are many very interesting things to do in mexico for a day. Out of all the wonderful choices the Coba Ruins day trip stands out. For this one day experience you will start at Cancun. From their you will depart and go to the Mayan ruins of
Coba. Then you will climb to the top of the tallest pyramid in the Yucatan peninsula and learn a lot of facts about the magnificent ancient community. After a fun day of history, you will rent bikes and tour the famous Coba ruins.
